Got Local?

People's Choice Award 2019: CannonBelles Cheese

Of 46 different vendors that received "favorite booth" votes at this year's festival, CannonBelles Cheese won by an 11-point spread for a decisive victory! Congratulations to DeAnn, Jackie and Kathy—who have great energy and make fantastic cheese!

They've been coming to FEAST! since they started up in 2016, and have really dedicated themselves to lasting relationships—doing many store demos with their cheese, pairing up with other businesses like Gardenaire for spices (have you tasted their Tuscan Cheddar?), and generally being great people!

Besides offering unique flavors not found in other cheese, they've also received national acclaim: at the American Cheese Society Championships in 2017, their Queso Fresco won First Place!

They've been so ambitious, they opened a coffee & ice cream shop in downtown Cannon Falls earlier this year, and plans are underway for their own dedicated cheese-making facility to open soon!

And, because we love the joy in this picture below, here's the moment they found out about their win:

Farm to table at FEAST!

We're glad to have had the privilege of working with Jennifer and Erik at Bleu Duck, and Tim Wiste of Tonic Local Kitchen and Juice Bar, both leaders in authentic farm to table dining. At this year's tradeshow awards ceremony we presented each of these eateries with The Nicci Sylvester Award. Read more in this article from the Post-Bulletin

Did you catch any of the delicious cooking demos (and samples!) from our lineup of local chefs?

People's Food Co-op shared video of Jena Erie's Tofu wild rice demo on their Instagram, @pfccoop

And wow, was there a crowd to see Shari from MasterChef! She used mushrooms from Green Compass Farm, peas from Sno Pac, and microgreens from Rivers Edge Market Garden for her wild rice dish.

If you're in Rochester you can catch classes with Shari at Figue, visit Chef Adrian Williams at Tonic, and enjoy Chef Erik Kleven's creative cooking at the Bleu Duck.

We wish for you adventurous cooking (and eating!) in the new year!

Fresh & Tasty

Veggie Voting & Alfombra!

Rochester Farmers Market produce was featured as part of the Vegetable Alfombra and the Kids' Choice Veggie Sampling—we thought you'd enjoy these snapshots of the fun results...
[And a big thanks to Channel One Food Bank for helping distribute some of this produce after the event!]

Pictured: The Vegetable Alfombra* created at the 2019 FEAST! Local Foods Marketplace festival in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, Dec. 7, curated by Susan Waughtal.

*This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

At the Kids Choice Veggie Voting, Mayo Clinic nutritionists offered the chance to sample chioggia beets, watermelon radishes, and two types of microgreens, and then vote with emoji stickers.

Did you know?

Research shows the advantage of having kids sample veggies 8-10 times before giving up on offering them! So even if they don't like it the first time, keep offering!
